High hammock

With only a month remaining on our island adventure, I figured it was time to cook up some Saipancakes.

While Cheri slept off a night shift, I found myself without adult supervision and hatched a plan for some fun in the tree.

Alice ascended (and both kids descended) via a rope and harness since I couldn’t trust Alice to cling to my back hair while I climbed.

Gryphon tried to continue tying up Alice on the ground, but she wouldn’t have it.  He did his impression of the Lorax instead.

We had a nice family swim in the evening.

Pool party

N: Gryphon, Mama brought you a coconut treat from work.  I think you’ll like its interesting shape.
G: Is it shaped like a square?
N: I don’t know – maybe.
G: Is it shaped like a cow kissing a cat?
N: That seems unlikely.
G: Is it shaped like a real coconut?

We haven’t had a video for awhile, have we?

Midwives Sarah and Jewel came over for pizza at the pool this evening.  Sarah brought Violet, and Jewel brought husband Robert and son Hiem, who regaled us with his ukulele.

Coconut treat

Cheri got a visit at work Saturday.  Alice gave her some bougainvillea petals.

I’ve mailed off a sketchbook to the Sketchbook Project – Cheri got it for me in January.  Sunday we started the day with some fractal pancakes.

Yesterday I opened up some of the young coconuts we found on the way back from the pool, for a delicious coconut treat.  Cheri read that coconut water is sterile and can be used in place of saline for IVs – she thinks the hospital here should start doing that.

Today I found mangoes, avocados, and pineapples at the market!  Plus some little things called pickle fruits, which are super sour.

We’ll miss these things when we leave; we have our plane tickets for the end of May.

Flame Tree Festival

We went to the start of the the 3-day Flame Tree Festival on Friday.

Cheri found some nice baskets, but we’re trying not to accumulate stuff.

Aunt Laura leaves

Laura enjoyed the island life enough to extend her trip a week.  She entertained the children one last time while Cheri and I had a breakfast date on Tuesday.

We stayed up watching a few episodes of The Amazing Race before Laura’s early morning flight.

Now we’re adjusting to taking care of our own kids again.

Dinner in the fort

Carlo joined us for dinner after the party on Saturday: spicy Korean rice balls, courtesy of Jun and Seo Hee’s mom.

Cheri fit in a game of Duck Duck Goose before heading to the hospital.
