Workin' on the railroad

I spent a couple of days removing the hedge in our backyard, and today I got a bunch of railroad ties to make into raised beds there. When I showed up at the rail yard, the guy said, "I'd help you move 'em, but I got two herniated disks." I bet I know how he got those. The ties are 8 feet long, about 200-250 lbs. each. After moving the first one, I was glad I didn't choose the 12 footers.

Jumpy legs

Gryphon tried out his jumping chair today... he found it mediocre entertainment. We found it good entertainment.

Out and about

Gryphon enjoyed some milk and a nap at Space Monkey Coffee on Thursday while Nathan reviewed some math for the upcoming school year. Then he did some work in the garage on Friday, some garage-saling yesterday, and enjoyed watching Star Wars outdoors at our neighbors' barbecue last night.

Fun in Portland

More photos have been added to the Reunion post, as well as to the gallery.

Laura and Claire stayed with us for a few days, enjoying the Saturday market and Goodwill Bins - some of Portland's finest entertainment.

Tad's brother Shane invited us for dinner at Portland's oldest fire station. We got the full tour, including pole-sliding.

We all continue to sleep erratically.

Horsethief Lake

Nathan went camping with Tad at Horsethief Lake in Washington this weekend.

Can you find Tad?

They visited a life-size replica of Stonehenge.

Reunion

The three of us have been visiting family in Bellingham for the past couple of weeks. Nathan's mom's siblings and their various offspring flew in, making for a lively house.
