Old Japanese jail

DSC02834
We visited the remains of a Japanese jail on Wednesday.

We found a drawing of a woman’s face carved into a wall (below, right).

From there we headed to the American Memorial Museum before picking up Gryphon from school.

In the pool

Gryphon has been appreciating all the extra story time he’s been getting lately.

Instead of renting a car, the parents decided to travel island-style.  We hit up the Tuesday market for bananas.

Earlier we had fun playing in the pool.

Alice took a liking to the waterslide.  The picture might not show it, but we swear she’s having fun.

It's official

Cheri accepted a nurse-midwife position at the Olympic Medical Center in Port Angeles, so we'll be leaving Saipan in May.

In the ocean

We’ve been having fun at the beaches lately.  Sunday we snorkeled at Obyan, though finding our way past the breakers was a little tricky.

After school on Monday we had lunch on the lagoon and swam to one of the tanks.

Battle of Saipan

03 March 2012-001 03 March 20121
While Cheri tried to sleep off a cold and prepare for a night shift, the rest of us took an excursion to the historic points up North.  First stop was the Last Command Post.

Then up to Suicide Cliff.

I took the children home while the others visited Banzai Cliff and Wing Beach.

Laura has set up an outdoor desk.  Dad’s happy with the couch.  Mom has a different kind of laptop.

Spicy Thai Noodle Place made it to #1 on Mojo’s list of “Places We’ve Eaten in Saipan”.

We’ve been watching Venus, Jupiter, and the moon shuffle around in the sky.
